What is Christianity about

If one boils Christianity down... way down to its bare elements. There are some simple beliefs

  1. God created everything

  2. Humanity has broken its relationship with God and itself

  3. God sent Jesus, making the way for humanity to be reconciled to God and itself

  4. God sends his Spirit to comfort, empower and guide us in our reconciliation to him and to each other

  5. In turn, we can accept or reject this life as it was created to be

If I could add an opinion.

The church at times has held to these beliefs well, but for the most part, it is obvious it has failed to live up to the central claims of Christianity. This is not surprising. The claim of Christianity is not that the church and its leaders are perfect; rather that God, as revealed in Jesus and manifest by the Spirit, is perfect. We wreck both God and the church when we see these two as the same.
